Andreas Schieder was born on 16 April 1969 and is an Austrian politician who has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2019.


Previously in his career, Schieder served as parliamentary leader of the Social Democratic Party in the National Council.


Andreas Schieder was state secretary in the Ministry of Finance in the government of Chancellor Werner Faymann from 2008 to 2013.


Andreas Schieder attended primary school in Hutteldorf, in the western suburbs of Vienna, the Goethe-Gymasium in Astgasse, and the Gymnasium Kundmanngasse.


Andreas Schieder graduated from the University of Vienna with a master's degree in economics.


Politicized through the debates about the war history of Kurt Waldheim, Andreas Schieder joined the Young Socialists.


Andreas Schieder served as vice president of the International Union of Socialist Youth from 1994 to 1997, from 1997 to 1999 as president of the Young European Socialists, as district councilor of Penzing and as a member of the Wiener Landtag und Gemeinderat.

On 28 October 2013 Andreas Schieder was elected parliamentary leader of the SPO in the National Council by the parliamentary club of his party; he succeeded Josef Cap who had held this position for 12 years.
