1. Atef Helmy Nagib is an Egyptian communication and technology expert and the former minister of communications and information technology.
Atef Helmy holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Electrical Engineering having graduated with Honors from the Military Technical College in 1973.
Atef Helmy received a diploma in Computer Science from the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University in 1979 and a master's degree in Information Technology from the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University in 1982.
Atef Helmy continued to serve in the armed forces in the field of communications and information technology from 1973 to 1983.
In 1983, Atef Helmy resigned from the armed forces and travelled to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates to join NCR and grew his career within the company until he became General Manager of NCR Dubai.
Atef Helmy moved to Egypt in 1996 to establish Oracle Egypt and lead it as its managing director.
Atef Helmy retired from Oracle in 2006 and subsequently founded Prime Business Consulting in 2007.
Atef Helmy chaired the Board of Trustees of the Information Technology Institute, the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, and oversaw the institutional development of Egypt Post.
Atef Helmy was again appointed minister of communications and information technology on 16 July 2013 to the interim cabinet led by Hazem Al Beblawi.
Atef Helmy was appointed as chairman of the board of Orange Egypt from April 2016 to April 2017.
Atef Helmy is married and has 3 children and 8 grandchildren.
