Kaobitsa Abel Bushy Maape was born on 1956 or 1957 and is a South African politician and anti-apartheid activist who served as the 7th Premier of the North West and as member of the North West Provincial Legislature from September 2021 until May 2024.

Bushy Maape earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in psychology and economics from the University of South Africa which he completed while imprisoned on Robben Island.

Bushy Maape holds an honours degree in developmental studies and an honours degree in economics from the University of the Western Cape.
