Christoph Poppen was born on 9 March 1956 and is a German conductor, violinist and academic teacher.

Christoph Poppen studied the violin with Kurt Schaffer at the Robert Schumann Hochschule, later with Oscar Shumsky, Nathan Milstein, and Joseph Gingold.
