Darnell Earley was appointed emergency manager of the Detroit Public Schools system in January 2015.

Darnell Earley was born to James and Earlie Mae Darnell Earley and was one of nine children.

Darnell Earley graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1969 and earned an associate's degree from Muskegon Community College in 1975.
