David Lametti was born on August 10,1962, in Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada, to Italian immigrants.

David Lametti earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and political science from the University of Toronto in 1985, and his Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Civil Law degrees at McGill University in 1989.
