Huyan Zan was a Chinese military general in the early years of the Northern Song dynasty.

In 964, Huyan Zan followed general Wang Quanbin to invade the Later Shu Kingdom as a vanguard general.

Huyan Zan was wounded several times in battle and later promoted to deputy command commissioner for his contributions in ending Later Shu.

Huyan Zan fell from the wall 4 times and was injured, but he continued attempting to scale the wall.

In 982, Huyan Zan assisted Cui Han in defending Dingzhou against the Liao Dynasty.

Huyan Zan demonstrated great courage, fully committed to die in battle.

At the recommendation of Cui, Huyan Zan was appointed deputy armed leader of cavalry and infantry in 987.

Huyan Zan constantly expressed his desire to be sent to the frontier.

Emperor Taizong summoned Huyan Zan and ordered him to perform his skills in front of him.

In 989, Huyan Zan was appointed Governor of Fuzhou.

However, Huyan Zan was not competent in managing logistics so he was reappointed Governor of Liaozhou.

In 999 Huyan Zan was appointed by Emperor Zhenzong as Inspector of the Palace Interior and Exterior.

One son, Huyan Zan Bixian, succeeded his father as deputy armed leader.
