Ralph Idris Steadman was born on 15 May 1936 and is a British illustrator best known for his collaboration with the American writer Hunter S Thompson.

Ralph Steadman was born in Wallasey, Cheshire to an English father, Lionel Raphael Ralph Steadman, and a Welsh mother, Gwendoline; the family moved to Wales towards the end of the Second World War.
