Wang Hua was born in Qi, Guanghan Commandery, which is present-day Guanghan, Sichuan.

Wang Hua was a descendant of Wang Tang, the Court Architect of the Han dynasty.

Wang Hua's grandfather, Wang Shang, whose courtesy name, was Wenbiao was a highly respected official with great virtues, serving as the Administrator of Shu Commandery when Liu Zhang was Governor of Yi Province.

Wang Hua's biography was recorded in the Yibu Qijiu Zhuan.

Wang Hua had three brothers, all of whom were well regarded from a young age.

Wang Hua himself, was well-versed in the Mao Commentary, Three Ritual Classics and Gongyang Zhuan.

Wang Hua was appointed as Officer of Merit by the Shu Han government then as an Assistant Officer.

Wang Hua successively held the positions of guanglu langzhong, Main Adviser and Gentleman of the Masters of Writing.
