Zhu Yougui became emperor after assassinating his father, the founding emperor Emperor Taizu.

Zhu Youqian the military governor of Huguo Circuit was particularly vocal, and when Zhu Yougui summoned him to Luoyang, Zhu Youqian refused.

Zhu Yougui thus declared a general campaign against Zhu Youqian, with Kang Huaizhen serving as the commander and Han Qing serving as Kang's deputy.
